Blog to the top, and Page Rank
Friday, 30 May 2008

Does blogging really work? Can it get your website to the top of the search engines? It can, but there's no guarantees.

The effect your blog has on the your search engine rankings can vary depending on what you are blogging about, how valuable it is and how much you are blogging.

If you are blogging about a specific topic, and are providing useful information, people are likely to check it out. They may even link to your blog posts. This, along with many other factors, can increase the popularity and page rank of your website. A proven method to keep people coming back for more is to provide them with new and useful information for free. Offer a little something, Give'em The Pickles. Let them see you are the expert but you're also not afraid to share some of what you know. You'll probably end up getting more business.

You might want to take some time to see if your business is listed on Google Maps, Yahoo! Local and other online business directories. Being listed in multiple online directories can help you get more visitors to your website, but best of all (even if you don't have a website) it will increase the chances of someone using your services.

To make it easy and simple for you I have listed some of the more essential online business directories and provided a direct link to where you can get listed:

How to Create Your Own Favicon
Tuesday, 20 May 2008

how to create a faviconA favicon is short for "favorites icon". It's also known as a website icon or urlicon. Most recent web browsers will display a favicon in the browser's URL bar, next to the site's name in lists of bookmarks, and next to the page's title in a tabbed document interface. Some operating systems, like Windows, will also often use the favicon for Internet shortcuts to sites placed on the desktop or in other directories.

How to Create a "Favicon.ico" File

There are multiple ways to create a favicon. One method is via www.favicon.cc. I prefer a different method:
  1. Create an image 16X16 or 32X32 pixels in size. I find it easiest to take an existing image and resize it.

EquitiMutual & CashflowWealth
Monday, 12 May 2008

cash flow wealth investors paradigmI've been doing web design work for The Investors Paradigm and some of their advisors for almost 18-months now. They are a great company to deal with, and they have a lot of great ideas.  They are creating a lot of value in the world today. If you've never played Robert Kiyosaki's Cashflow 101 game, you might want to check out the Cashflow Events put on by The Investors Paradigm.

EquitiMutual & CashflowWealth are some of the latest projects I've been working on with The Investors Paradigm.  Working in cooperation with their branding guy, I did the HTML/CSS and other development work on these single-page lead-generation web sites.

Check them out at www.cashflowwealth.com and www.equiti-mutual.com.

Coming soon will be a complete redesign of The Investors Paradigm's main site: www.theinvestorsparadigm.com

LatterdayConservative.com, my hobby site.
Monday, 12 May 2008

Latter-day Conservative LatterdayConservative.com is dedicated to teaching the principles of freedom and the proper role of government, from an LDS perspective, using quotes, talks and articles by Latter-day Saint prophets and other prominent LDS Church members. LatterdayConservative.com promotes the belief that rights come from God, and that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man, in order to protect those rights.

This site has been a long-time passion and hobby of mine.  I created it because of the love I have for freedom and and the desire helps others better understand freedom and the current threats to it.  The site has had many designs over the years to get to where it is now.

Some Google stats on the site: As of today, a search for lds freedom puts latterdayconservative.com at #1 in the results.  lds constitution = #2, gordon b hinckley freedom = #9, skousen freedom = #3, cleon skousen = #7, joseph smith government = #5 . . . You get the idea.  When searching for LDS content related to freedom, politics, government, etc. LatterdayConservative.com comes up in the top ten very often.

Is Podcasting Right for You?
Thursday, 10 April 2008

A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The term podcast, like "radio", can refer either to the content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their content, a podcast is distinguished from other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added, using an aggregator or feed reader capable of reading feed formats such as RSS or Atom.

Now that we've covered what a Podcast is... Is a Podcast right for you?
In this age of instant communications you can't afford to only make direct person-to-person contact with your prospects, customers or employees once a quarter. You need a podcast to get your message, in your own voice, in front of these key audiences on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.
