Does blogging really work? Can it get your website to the top of the search engines? It can, but there's no guarantees.

The effect your blog has on the your search engine rankings can vary depending on what you are blogging about, how valuable it is and how much you are blogging.

If you are blogging about a specific topic, and are providing useful information, people are likely to check it out. They may even link to your blog posts. This, along with many other factors, can increase the popularity and page rank of your website. A proven method to keep people coming back for more is to provide them with new and useful information for free. Offer a little something, Give'em The Pickles. Let them see you are the expert but you're also not afraid to share some of what you know. You'll probably end up getting more business.

As I've been busy creating websites for others I haven't done much about improving the rank of my own web design website until recently. To show how beneficial a Blog can be, consider this site. Before I had a blog on the site, it was nearly invisible when searching for terms such as "utah web design" or "salt lake city web design" (which is what I am targeting). After adding a Blog with useful content this site started showing up in the searches and has been rising ever since. As of right now weblifellc.com ranks #29 for "utah web design" and #15 for "salt lake city web design". I am happy about these results considering what I'm up against, however, I know I can do better.

You can't just create a site and hope that you come up in the top ten results on Google. You have to know what you want and work for it.
